I am a project engineer for the JPMorgan Equities Operate Projects & Control team. I am working on a project to improve processes for various JPMorgan support teams.
Who do you interact with?
I have regular interactions globally. Specifically, there are Operate teams in Houston and New York as well as Sydney that I liase with daily.
What brought you to the ETC?
Graduating from a technical degree at Edinburgh University, I wanted to find a company within financial services that could develop my career and provide the challenging and interesting environment which I wanted to work in.
What was your first impression when you came to the ETC for interview?
I was Impressed by the open plan office which actively encourages interaction between staff, I also liked the professional yet relaxed atmosphere. I gained the impression that it was a very technically focussed environment.
Did you relocate? If so, where from?
Originally from Dunfermline, I lived in Edinburgh while at University and commuted to Glasgow until recently. I have now moved to Glasgow and live near to the ETC.
Where do you commute from?
Since I live only ten minutes’ walk away, commuting is cheap and quick for me!
How do you ‘make a difference’ in your work?
I try to make a difference in my work by means of my project which will help out Operate teams globally by improving existing processes and implementing new tools. I also participates in other extra activities such as ‘buddying’ Interns and helping out with Graduate recruitment for JPMorgan.
Are there any activities or pursuits you can participate in that you couldn’t before?
The time I save by not having to commute from Edinburgh every day allows me to spend more time in helping out with extra initiatives in work such as the buddy schemes and recruitment, as well as allowing me to spend more time on my own interests.
