Job Title/Role:
Build Manager

Can you describe your role?
I am the Build Manager for Settlements and Clearing. I am also partly responsible for various other projects.

Who do you interact with?
I interact daily with users based in global locations, and especially the Plan managers in London.

What brought you to the ETC?
I originally came to the ETC because I wanted to work in the fast paced and challenging financial industry. In addition, the challenge of working in a fledgling location as the ETC was in 1999 was attractive to me. I started working with JPMorgan in 1999 in a support role.

What was your first impression when you came to the ETC for interview?
What was your first impression when you came to the ETC for interview? When I was first interviewed in the ETC in 1999, the building was in the process of being fitted out to suit JPMorgan, so it was all very hectic. This has now flourished into one of the best offices and working environments that I have seen.

Did you relocate? If so, where from?
I moved to London in 2001, and then relocated to New York for six months. Then I moved back to London. In 2003, I wanted to come back to work in the ETC because of a strong desire to live near my family and to continue my challenging and rewarding career in Glasgow without sacrificing the career benefits of working in London. Moving back to Glasgow was by no means a step backward in my career; in fact I have made great progress since my return which I expect to continue.

How do you ‘make a difference’ in your work?
Commuting from Bishopbriggs every day, I drive into work and park in Central Station for £3.50 a day. My journey takes around 20 minutes. I have a flexible work arrangement which means I work the equivalent of a 5 day week in 4 days. This extra day at home is particularly important to me being a mother of a young child.
